Blog 2019

The last few months have been exceedingly busy ones. We are on course to have done 98 outings in the period February to June 2019 – that’s an incredible 5 outings a week! During that time we have taken nearly 450 clients out.

Stephen Sanders (our Chairman) and I have given talks to a number of local groups including Lichfield St. Chads Rotary Club, Lichfield Arthritis Care and the Cannock Visually Impaired Group. We have also spoken to a number of groups living in sheltered accommodation. This seems to have attracted about 50 new clients or potential clients. It is clear that there is a real need for the service that we provide.

Our spring programme was quite adventurous with lots of new venues (plus, of course, some of the old favourites). Canal and river trips continue to be very popular. Since February we have put on eight boat trips including two to the very beautiful Llangollen canal with its outstanding traverse across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a World Heritage site. We have another trip to Llangollen booked for August.

Other popular trips included Cromford Mills in Derbyshire, a Japanese lunch in Birmingham, greyhound racing in Wolverhampton and a visit to the Compton Verney art gallery. The photos below capture some of the fun we have had over past few months.

Our summer programme is now available (see Forthcoming outings) and we trust that you will find something to interest you. If you have any suggestions for future outings please let us know – you can contact us directly from this website. Don’t forget, we try to ensure that our venues are wheelchair accessible and that disabled-access toilets are available there.

Finally, we have been incredibly lucky to attract some more volunteers. Wendy Evans, Richard Davis and Elaine Moore have all joined us in the last month. Please make them welcome!
